I sent off a Email to find out more. He said he is on the big Island.
The guy called today: He said he was making it in a big open pit out of a lot of different woods. He said after it got the fire going good that he "covered it" and let it heat for days. I guess I am too new to it to know if this would be good or a rip.He was going to get a report on his product maybe this week. He also said he had put about 5 yards( I think) into his garden. 20%. and that it made a big change, but he had to add a lot of nitrogen to make up for the boichar. I think he wanted $350 a yard. Any one have a big open pit?
Tim dug a gigantico pit at the Job he's working at , not the one to your left facing the ocean Bill, the one to the right. It was supposed to be an Emu pit (sp?) but some funny hawaiian lead him wrong told him 6 by 8 by 4 feet deep. Its gigantic ;) You could do 6 pigs in there at once.
The guy that digs the holes is Tom, he's old neighborhood watch down there, he grows his own food too, neat guy. You might be able to talk him into diggin ya one for cheap with the back hoe. I think he's a close neighbor of yours. Want me to inquire?
Yes see what he has to say, and I saw the "HOLE". That hole could make a lot of boichar 3-4 yards at a time.I guess then just up dirt on top to control the air. We may have a boichar party in the making.
You got it I'll ask timmeh to give him a call.
Man I wish I had the land to dig a big ole hole too, jealous. ;P
FYI, there is a discussion list for biochar in Hawaii now:

There are only 14 of us in the group so far, including some UH researchers, Jay, myself, and Josiah who made that char and put it on CL. Please join our group!
